Forest of Imagined Beginnings

online now

boredomresearch are interested in creating landscape environments online that develop overtime, where users can explore and manipulate these environments, creating an individual experience which is both contemplative and rewarding.

FOIB at HarrisIn the Forest of Imagined Beginnings there are no clear rules or objectives. It is simply an online landscape that is vulnerable to the whims and wants of the community that adopt this digital terrain as their own. Exploring the forest enclosure users can embed their own messages within the landscape. Overtime the forest will reveal a tangled mass of expressions, poetically unravelling and floating up to the sky. The forest has not worn a path, once entered you could affect its direction…

The first instance of Forest of Imagined Beginnings was exhibited at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, 16th March - 2nd June 2007 in Preston as part of Digital Aesthetic 2 and has been commissioned by folly in conjunction with digi_club, an online forum for young people.  This first, pilot instance of the forest - without the ability to leave /read messages - can be seen here http://www.boredomresearch.net/foib.

The final instance of the forest, for 12-16 year old digi_club members, is now online at http://www.digi.org.uk/foib. This forest is a safe and secure environment for 12 - 16 year olds to contribute to.

Another instance of Forest of Imagined Beginnings, for all ages is online at http://www.enter-forest.net and was presented at Enter_Unknown Territories, 25 – 29 April 2007 in Cambridge and has been supported by National Centre of Computer Animation, Bournemouth University and enter.
