Manifesto for Children's Arts Launched

Action for Children's Arts is an organisation dedicated to the promotion, development and celebration of all the creative and performing arts for and with children, aged 0 - 12 years. This week they launched their Manifesto for Children's Arts

The manifesto argues for more investment in arts participation for children in line with Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child which states that  "[e]very child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.  Member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity."

Part of the manifesto points to access to cultural activities not being limited for children from rural areas, something which folly has been dedicated to for some time now, and can be seen in our delivery of our new Portable Pixel Playground project across Cumbria and Lancashire aimed at 6-16 year olds.
