Lancaster Relay - Germaine Koh

Lancaster Relay combines the lonely image of a flashing lighthouse and the invisible communications networks that surround us. From the top of the Ashton Memorial, a light beams – in Morse code – driven by mobile phone text messages sent to it. Lancaster Relay will operate as a bulletin board conveying news from near and far, providing opportunities for social discourse across the city skyline. Germaine Koh is a Canadian-born artist, her conceptually-generated work is concerned with the significance of everyday actions, familiar objects and common places. Her work was included in international exhibitions such as the 2004 Liverpool Biennial, La Biennale de Montréal 2000 and the 1998 Biennale of Sydney. She is also an independent curator.
