Aura by Steve Symons

Aura is an augmented reality project. Augmented reality involves the overlaying of digital information onto real space. By moving through the real world wearing a special Aura device, users experience the digital information at the location to which it refers - imagine walking through an array of invisible speakers suspended in space. Without visual interfaces like a mouse, keyboard or screen, GPS satellite technology creates a unique 3-dimensional audio signature and soundtrack for the users.

Steve Symons set up muio.org in 2003 to facilitate his practice, research, artwork and the technology created in its realisation. Key principles of muio.org are to explore the artistic use of technology, focusing in particular on simple rules and elements that, when combined, allow for more complex audio-visual interactions to emerge. He has over 10 years experience of teaching and training and has worked for Liverpool John Moores University and the International Centre for Digital Content.
