Grow your own media lab Grow Your Own Media Lab

Grow Your Own Media Lab is a trans-regional action research project that aims to investigate, improve and document a low cost, participatory, open sourcei media lab model.

The ethos is to develop media labs as places to access learning opportunities, inspiration, collaboration, skill-sharing and community involvement. GYOML embraces Free, Open Source Software, continuous skill development and skill sharing, working closely with the community, providing accessible ways for people to get actively involved in digitali media production.

folly is offering an opportunity for Lancashire & Cumbria teachers to take part in a funded gallery placement programme this Autumn/Winter.

Watch This Space 3 with folly will increase their knowledge of media arts, plus allow them to expand the creative use of technology in teaching.

Young Roots: Through the Window

Young Roots

A unique social arts project titled ‘Young Roots: Through The Window’, focuses on young people’s interpretations of Morecambe architecture & history, how the town has changed and how they can influence the future as the town develops.

Involving a group of young people from Morecambe taking part in four days of workshops delivered by acclaimed artist Tony Stallard, the focus has been on the interpretations of the town, its architecture, architectural loss and changes over the last century or more.

There will be a launch event held at the Dome, Morecambe on July 26th 2006

e-lumi is a project run by folly as part of the biennial Staveley Carnival celebrating art, music, dance and colour. A two month workshop programme culminates in a weekend of carnival festivities this Summer.

folly Academy is a programme of touring workshops in schools funded by Local Childrens Network Fund and Awards for All. Digital photography and moblogging workshops on the theme of ‘Identity’ will be delivered in partnership with ICDC (International Centre for Digital Content) based in Liverpool, for young people under 19 across Cumbria and Lancashire, to coincide with the national NOISE festival.

For this year’s Summer School folly is working in partnership with ixi-software, I am One and More Music in Morecambe. Ixi-software is an international network of experimentalists in computer music and computer music software. The 3-day summer school is aimed at musicians, designers, artists and those with an interest in multimedia technologies who want to explore how new digital technologies can help and inspire us when working with music and sound.
