A type of logic that recognizes values more complex than simple true and false. It recognizes degrees of truthfulness. For example the statement, “The people were hungry” may be considered 100% true if all individuals referred to were at the point of hunger, 50% true if half were and the remainder were simply peckish. You may have come across one common use of fuzzy logici if you have used a spell checker which has suggested a list of alternatives to a misspelt/mistyped word in a word-processing program. The computer uses fuzzy logic to suggest words which partially match (or are partially true to) the word you have typed but which is not recognized by the computers dictionary.
