URL

The "Uniform Resource Locator" is the address of a specific Web site or file on the Internet. The beginning section of a URLi indicates the type of resource it is addressing. These prefixes include:

• ftpi - a directory of files or an actual file available to download

• file - a file located on your hard drive or some other local drive

• news - a newsgroup

• WAIS - a database or document on a Wide Area Information Search database

• gopheri - a gopher document or menu

• telneti - a Unixi-based computer system that you can log into

• http - a hypertext directory or document (such as a web page)
