ArtCast is folly's new ongoing series of podcasting programmes - a platform for public access to new and innovative art.

ArtCasts are released in sets at regular intervals throughout the year. To launch ArtCast folly invited Sonic Arts Network to join us in the selection of podcasts from an international open call.

The deadline for folly's call for submissions to ArtCast's April programme has now passed. The new series, in association with moves08, will be available from early April.

Scott Pagano Film Night

Filmmaker and designer Scott Pagano creates futuristic moving images using aspects of architecture which fracture on the screen. With influences ranging from minimalist painting to science fiction cinema, his work offers a new perspective on the many images and messages we get bombarded with in our everyday lives. His meticulously constructed abstract artworks push the boundaries of audio-visual composition and process using a dynamic mix of cinematography and synthetic image.

VELOCITY Finale

VELOCITY Finale 2007The final event of VELOCITY with Ludus Dance. Participants registered their interest and received details of how, using their mobile phone, they could participate in or watch a new piece of dance on trains and stations along the VELOCITY route, finishing in Lancaster for the bonfire night celebrations at 8pm.

Participants used their mobile phones to capture videos and photos of the performances, which you can see online now.

Points of Reference - Adam Clarke

An onboard and online collective photography workshop, part of VELOCITY 2007.

Help create a series of black and white mosaic portraits of passengers using an image bank of landscape photography all taken from the windows of trains and at stations. The artist will be travelling around the Bay throughout the festival engaging and enlisting members of the public to participate in the project. Don’t forget to take your camera or cameraphone on your next walk or train journey and get snapping!

Re-enchantment & Reclamation - Chris Welsby

A talk and film screening by artist Chris Welsby who has been invited to visit Morecambe Bay during VELOCITY by the Lancaster Institute of Contemporary Arts. He is interested in the elemental processes contained within the landscape and will be spending the week looking at the relationships between technology and nature through the mechanics of film and video.

Martin John Callanan, Location of IFor one day only, Martin John Callanan travelled around the VELOCITY festival, sending information about his whereabouts to an online map in our Lancaster map room.

Visitors to the map room at Lancaster Station helped us to track the artist's location throughout the day, interacting with Martin through text messages, photography and drawing as he visited towns, stations and landmarks around the bay.

In October 2002, Chechen rebels took over the Dubrovka theatre in Moscow during a performance of the musical Nord Ost, taking audience and performers hostage. The siege lasted for nearly two and a half days, ending when the Russian military pumped in a sedative gas and stormed the building. 129 hostages died...

Exactly five years on, AFTER DUBROVKA is an opportunity to reflect on the significance of this event, and on other acts of performance and audience in the world today.

An array of interactive thaumotropes fill the gallery window facing inside and out. Their solar powered spin governed by the strength of the passing sun. Each device contains immaculately detailed hand painted miniatures as seen from the bay window of the artist’s studio overlooking the Firth of Forth.
