An open technology specification for short-range radio links between portable machines such as mobile PCs and "smart" devices. It can be described as a networking technology and enables data to easily pass between devices without the necessity of an unobstructed path between them. In this way it differs from infrared technologies which require an undisrupted line of sight to operate. Bluetoothi has been categorised as a technology to replace cables connecting digitali devices.
