Never Invest In An Idea You Can't Illustrate With A Crayon...
WEEK 9
Morning at Mossgate was spent viewing my documentary so far and discussing changes/additions. More then halfway through now, and I've had some excellent feedback. I'm really looking forward to spending my last two days putting it all together.
The other part of the morning was filled years 3&4 who were painting through stencils to create some lovely artwork surrounding nature. With crayons and/or wax they used the stencils or drew their own pictures. Then the children coloured over their images with watercolour paints. The wax crayon repelled the paint much to the children's amazement. This encouraged years 3&4 to think ahead in how to incorporate these two mediums, for example, if they decided to draw a picture of a house and clouds with crayon, they could then paint in the sky and grass.
A lot of the children has never done this before, and were surprised at the effect - it was great to see such a wonderful response. Many of the pupils rushed the their first drawing, in a hurry to see the effect for themselves, but then they were eager to try again, this time putting much more thought into their picture, which resulted in some lovely second pieces of art. As the teacher said, practice makes perfect!
It's half term for Mossgate now, so I won't be in till Tuesday 26th April – I'd like to think the kids will practice their new arty techniques this holiday, but from the looks of the gorgeous weather we've been having (Sunday afternoon in Morecambe being the highest temperature that was recorded in the UK at 21.5C!) I suspect the children will find other ways to amuse themselves!
