What's Cooking Grandma?

Project start date: October, 2006

What's Cooking Grandma is a video cookbook of grandmothers and their special recipes, celebrating Grandma's cooking and sharing knowledge across generations.
The project was created by artists duo Human Beans, in the belief that you can’t really write a grandmother’s recipe down, it’s only in a video that you get the real feel of a grandmother cooking.

In the summer of 2006 the grandmothers of Lancaster were filmed cooking their special recipes, all of which can be found on the What's Cooking Grandma website. Since then What's Cooking Grandma has been collecting and sharing recipes from Grandmas across the world. By uploading your own recipes to the site you can help build a resource of thousands of years of cooking experience.

Human Beans is a collaboration between London based artists and designers Mickaël Charbonnel and Chris Vanstone. What’s Cooking Grandma was commissioned as part of Perimeters Boundaries and Borders - an f.city exhibition from fast-uk and folly, at City Lab, Lancaster.
